Abstract

This paper presents some reflections on the functioning of so-called perfective or telic verbs in French. These notions, which in Indo-European languages are mainly relevant to Slavic languages, can be applied to Romance languages and in particular to French. He analyses the interactions between the functioning of the verbal aspect at the level of morphology and its expression at the level of semantics. The author first wanted to show how the opposition inaccompli/accomplished characterized by the presence of the auxiliary in compound forms makes it possible to define the verbal aspect. Then, he studies the "intra-semantic" aspect with an approach that is based on both the concept of telicity and the theoretical principles of Gustave Guillaume's psychomechanics of language. In the last part, he examines the interactions with these two expressions of aspect by highlighting the specificities of the meaning effects produced.
