Varianti ed errori nella traduzione anglosassone dei "Dialogi" di Gregorio Magno

The Old English translation of Gregory's Dialogues appears to be relying on a distinctive tradition of the Latin text which differed in many respects from the Continental tradition. Whereas a number of readings reflect variations characteristic of the Latin exemplar used by the translator, other readings can only be explained on the assumption that later revisers referred to further Latin copies and corrected the Old English text accordingly. A number of occurrences demonstrate that the translation has been subject to revision at a very early stage and that the text from which all extant manuscripts descend was itself a revised text of the Old English Dialogues.
