This paper presents a procedure to evaluate off-design behaviour of steam boilers. This procedure, which makes use of a mathematical linearization of the characteristical equations of heat transfer, allows an easy resolution of the problem and therefore may applied with advantage to several energetic analyses (waste heat recovery, repowering of steam power plants, etc.) By the use of simplified correlations which individualize the off-design behavior of single components, the procedure has then beer formulated specifically for fuel-fired boilers and waste heat recovery boilers.

Abstract

This paper presents a procedure to evaluate off-design behaviour of steam boilers. This procedure, which makes use of a mathematical linearization of the characteristical equations of heat transfer, allows an easy resolution of the problem and therefore may applied with advantage to several energetic analyses (waste heat recovery, repowering of steam power plants, etc.) By the use of simplified correlations which individualize the off-design behavior of single components, the procedure has then beer formulated specifically for fuel-fired boilers and waste heat recovery boilers.
