Prima della bulimia ermeneutica : osservazioni sul dialogo mancato tra Emilio Betti e Luigi Pareyson

Before the Hermeneutical Bulimia: Observations on the Missed Dialogue between Emilio Betti and Luigi Pareyson. What development would Italian discussion about hermeneutics have had. If Luigi Pareyson and Emilio Betti, i.e. an existentialist-personalistic hermeneutics of aesthetic formativity (1954) and an hermeneutics as a general method of Geisteswissenschaften aiming at a relative objectivity (1955), had been able/wanted to dialogue with each other? Starting from this counterfactual hypothesis, articulated through a detailed analysis of the points of contact and difference between the philosopher’s and the jurist-philosopher’s key-concepts, the paper imagines a debate that could perhaps have provided a better context of reception to the subsequent Gadamer’s hermeneutics.
