The authors present the work on the Citadel conducted by an Italian Syrian team of archaeologists (mostly Syrians), historians, architects and cultural economists (mostly Italians of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata") more than a decade ago before the beginning of the Syrian Civil War . In the continuing tragedy in Syria, the results of this mission, albeit partial and fragmented, might draw the attention to the extraordinary heritage of history and art of the country. The case of the Citadel is particularly significant of how the work of the historians and archaeologists is the necessary reference point and the conceptual basis in an economic project of restoration and sustainable reuse of a monument because of some peculiarities that characterize it.

Abstract
The authors present the work on the Citadel conducted by an Italian Syrian team of archaeologists (mostly Syrians), historians, architects and cultural economists (mostly Italians of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata") more than a decade ago before the beginning of the Syrian Civil War . In the continuing tragedy in Syria, the results of this mission, albeit partial and fragmented, might draw the attention to the extraordinary heritage of history and art of the country. The case of the Citadel is particularly significant of how the work of the historians and archaeologists is the necessary reference point and the conceptual basis in an economic project of restoration and sustainable reuse of a monument because of some peculiarities that characterize it.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
