On 28 October 1935 in Rome, four new postal office buildings were inaugurated, built following the competition launched by the Minister of Communications with the aim of providing the capital with a modern and decentralized postal service. The building for the Appio district is entrusted to the young Giuseppe Samonà who develops a project in which he tries to update the traditional architectural language with frankly modern motifs. In the transition from the competition project to the construction, Samonà carries out a laborious and punctual revision work to create a "soberly monumental architecture", and very modern.
