The essay retraces the human and saintly life of Elsbeth Achler, the venerated founder of a small religious community in the territory of Lake Constance. Although little known, Elsbeth’s experience – as her confessor Konrad Kügelin decided to recount it to the Bishop of Constance – fits significantly into the his- toric framework of the Observants, embodying some of its distinctive features. These include the permeability between the various religious experiences, which marked a watershed with the past, and the predominance of the hagiographic model inspired by Catherine of Siena at the close of the fifteenth century.

Abstract
The essay retraces the human and saintly life of Elsbeth Achler, the venerated founder of a small religious community in the territory of Lake Constance. Although little known, Elsbeth’s experience – as her confessor Konrad Kügelin decided to recount it to the Bishop of Constance – fits significantly into the his- toric framework of the Observants, embodying some of its distinctive features. These include the permeability between the various religious experiences, which marked a watershed with the past, and the predominance of the hagiographic model inspired by Catherine of Siena at the close of the fifteenth century.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
