Getting out of prison represents one of those rare moments of beginning. On the other hand, we remain aware that we will always remain in prison. Pavese feels the closeness of any human experience to that of the mad, the cursed, the criminals, waiting for "something beautiful" that characterizes some moments of childhood, remembering them through the eyes of the adult.
