The celebration of the 100th birthday of Prof. Erskine Francis Rendel Crossley, who has been one of the most significant founding fathers of IFToMM, is a good opportunity to look back at the historical evolution of IFToMM with the aim to discuss trends of a IFToMM role for MMS in technological developments. This paper is an attempt to outline the history of IFToMMas understood by an IFToMMMist of third generation with an eye to the future of the IFToMM community.

Abstract
