The meaning and the use of the term εὐβουλία, quite important in the political thought of 5th cent. B.C., is hier investigated in order to better understand how it’s used in Dikaiopolis’ encomium in Aristoph. Ach. 1008 ss., and especially to detect a sort of “implicit irony” in the comic hero’s praise. The lessical survey shows that it’s a special kind of word, denoting a positive value, but able to mutate in reference to different periods and political perspectives.
