The recent discovery of a fresco in the historic church of Sant'Antonio abate in Castelleone di Suasa (Ancona) provided an opportunity for a broader reflection on the developments of painting in Umbria and the Marches in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The attribution to an anonymous artist of probable Umbrian origins, called the “Maestro del Palazzolo”, has led to the analysis being extended to works by other wandering artists active in the Marches in the sixteenth century, such as Orando Merlini, Giuliano Persciutti and Benedetto Nucci.

Abstract
The recent discovery of a fresco in the historic church of Sant'Antonio abate in Castelleone di Suasa (Ancona) provided an opportunity for a broader reflection on the developments of painting in Umbria and the Marches in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The attribution to an anonymous artist of probable Umbrian origins, called the “Maestro del Palazzolo”, has led to the analysis being extended to works by other wandering artists active in the Marches in the sixteenth century, such as Orando Merlini, Giuliano Persciutti and Benedetto Nucci.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
