The paper elaborates on the Dubs' hypothesis on the existence of a Roman city in China. It reviews the Roman and Chinese materials on the topic and it also considers the Kara-Kamar latin inscription. It reaches the conclusion that the hypothesis is plausible, considering also the Chinese imperial politics with regard to the autonomy of the cities.
