This paper presents a journey through the major historical moments and characters that have marked the cultural landscape of the three countries, showing the web of their affinities and differences. Special emphasis is given to the period of the Second Empire, when a Neapolitan princess was Empress of Brazil. At that time was created the initial core of the largest colony of Italian origin in the world.
