Kant within the Tradition of Modern Logic: The Role of the ‘Introduction: Idea of a Transcendental Logic’

The paper advances the hypothesis that Kant originally wrote the Introduction: Idea of a Transcendental Logic in the form of an academic program to invite students by stressing the unusual question of the difference between general and transcendental logic. Later on, he gave up the idea of a separate publication and instead included this text in the Critique of Pure Reason, which is a book on the theory of knowledge containing several logical and metaphysical sections. The paper’s aim is to provide evidence for Kant’s preoccupation with placing his new philosophy within the tradition of early modern logic and metaphysics.
