Interactions between Semantic and Verbal Aspects in Romance Languages: Examples in French and Italian. This paper analyses the notion of the verbal aspect in Romance languages and especially, the interactions between its functioning at a morphological level and its expression at a semantic level giving examples in French and Italian. The author first wants to show how the unaccomplished / accomplished opposition characterized by the presence of the auxiliary to compound tenses makes it possible to define the verbal aspect in Romance languages. He then studies the « intra-semantic » aspect with an approach that is based both on the concept of telicity and on the theoretical principles of the psychomechanics of language of Gustave Guillaume. Finally, he examines the interactions with these two expressions of the verbal aspect by highlighting the specificities of the consequent nuances of meaning.
