Starting from the Cotta edition of 1815, it appeared ogether with Ein gleiches (Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh), forming a bipartite, unitary and different whole in itself. The essay reconstructs the editorial history of the two texts and their metamorphosis over the course of time.
