The October Revolution has long been considered as a watershed between tradition and innovation, between reform and avant-garde. Actually, things did not go exactly like that. In Russia, at the end of the nineteenth century, changes and innovation involved theatre, dance and the visual arts within the Modernist experimentation. The artists of this movement analysed their linguistic codes in search of the basic elements of their disciplines and they sought new forms of expression, giving autonomy to theatre, dance and scenography. The modernist ideal of a synthesis of the arts was deeply felt by the Russian artists, therefore, it is possible to find the roots of the Russian Vanguard in this cultural environment. The synthesis of the arts was the common thread to the various fields of research of new forms of expression in the figurative and in performance arts before and after the October Revolution. This paper aims to highlight the vitality and continuity of this analytical research line, giving some examples.

Abstract
This paper aims to highlight the vitality and continuity of this analytical research line, giving some examples.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
