Modestinus was one of the most prominent jurists of the Severan age. He was Ulpian’s student and in the so-called Law of Citations his opinions were considered authoritative. He probably came from the Greek-speaking East and held many important public positions related to his legal expertise. Many extracts of his works survive in the Justinianic Digest
