This paper presents a metrical and dramatic analysis of the structure ‘monody-parodos’ in Euripides’ Trojan Women (ll. 98-229). This structure is placed at the beginning of the tragedy and it sets up a great emotional scene. The meter used here is the dimeter anapaestic, in parakataloge and lyric; meter and dialogue (in the first strophic pair of parodos) emphasize the strenght of the philia relationship between Ecuba and the Chorus of Trojan Captives.
