This book presents and compares the main results of a PRIN research that starts from the deep discontinuities and the numerous resistances that have been generated over time between two polarities: the city and the countryside. The investigations aimed to explore, within different geographical environments and in different spatial, economic and social situations, the meaning of a new settlement entity: the city in extension. An image that involves a suspension and a critical judgment towards the centric conceptual urban unit that, naming the city, presupposes its implicit correlation: the suburbs, the open territory, as accessory and subordinate figures. The crucial passages of this research work are based on the background of the “samonanian” prefiguration. It is a conjecture about the shape of the city and its essence, starting from which models and design surveys are patiently configured, unified by a common premonition: the urban topic "could have another form but above all it was or could be something else". As the research progresses, the observations become a "design technique" that follows and interprets the found rules, isolating the consolidated details from the complex scenario and sketching a new temporary reality in the direction of an open and inclusive project, strict in the interpretative procedures as much as available to the rewriting of the tracks.

Abstract
As the research progresses, the observations become a "design technique" that follows and interprets the found rules, isolating the consolidated details from the complex scenario and sketching a new temporary reality in the direction of an open and inclusive project, strict in the interpretative procedures as much as available to the rewriting of the tracks.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
