The essay examines Ausonius’ epitaph dedicated to Aiax (epitaph. 3 Green) from the rethorical and stylistic point of view. The Poet made use of a very common and popular topos in Latin literature of late antiquity, that of the flower that blooms from the hero’s blood. The compositional and poetic technique is revealed in this reading of Ausonius’specimen.
