The aim of the research is to investigate the role of strategic control and the conditions of its effectiveness. The first part of the research is based on a literary research on strategic control and on the definition of the principal perspectives, the role and the conditions of effectiveness of strategic control. The second part is based on an empirical research: a strategic control check analysis based on the firms of the pharmaceutical industry. The main finding is the fact that even if there is an overproduction of contributes on strategic management, an interesting part is position on the theme of aligning organization and strategy. Starting from this point I defined the variables that influence strategic control (coherence of performances and strategic uncertainties) and investigate the role of strategic control on different combination of this conditions. The main results is the fact that, augmenting strategic uncertainties and incoherence of performance is positively related to augmenting of the alignment function. The main implications for business regarding the way of manage strategy in each different condition and concerning the typology of management (top down vs boottum up), the degree of involvement of employee on managing strategy, the resources allocation and the motivation policy. The main originality of this contribute concern a new way to investigate the role of strategic control and its effectiveness, starting from a widen perspective of control as means of alignment.
Obiettivo di questa contributo è di definire le condizioni che rendono efficace il controllo strategico. Il lavoro si divide in due parti: nella prima, tramite l'analisi della letteratura, si posiziona il tema del controllo strategico all'interno della ricerca sulla strategia; nella seconda, si riportano i risultati di un'indagine empirica sull'uso del controllo strategico all'interno delle imprese del settore "pharma". Il principale risultato è quello di aver definito le condizioni che influenzano il ruolo del controllo strategico, ed averle rappresentate su una matrice a doppia entrata. L'analisi dei quadranti di ogni matrice permette di definire i principali elementi sui quali deve agire il controllo per essere efficace.
