Exposure to electromagnetic fields is an important issue for the safety of individuals. In the 1974 IRPA-International Association for Radiation Protection established a Working Group on NIR-Non Ionizing Radiation. In the 1977 in Paris during the annual conference of the IRPA, the group became an international committee and established a series of documents relating to health criteria of NIR. Given the existence of health problems, comes the need to ensure safety for workers, train drivers and train travelers. They are subjected to electromagnetic radiation because of their working activity or for other reasons. The idea of this work arises from the need to ensure safety for both passengers and staff of a train. In particular we focus on the sanitary impact of the microwaves employed in the implementation of the Italian legacy (i.e. pre-ERTMS) Automatic Train Protection system called SSC (Sistema di Supporto alla Condotta, Driving Support System).

Abstract
