The paper examines relevant passages from Orestis Tragoedia by Dracontius, where the character of Orestes is described in a state of extreme furor, full of remorse and haunted first by the ghost of his mother Clitemnestra and afterwards by that of his father Agamemnon. The analysis reveals the attention and the care with which Dracontius tried to amplify the synthetic Virgilian narrative, primary model of the story.

Abstract

The paper examines relevant passages from Orestis Tragoedia by Dracontius, where the character of Orestes is described in a state of extreme furor, full of remorse and haunted first by the ghost of his mother Clitemnestra and afterwards by that of his father Agamemnon. The analysis reveals the attention and the care with which Dracontius tried to amplify the synthetic Virgilian narrative, primary model of the story.
