“...questo giudizioso giro di parole”: Nicolo' Jommelli, tra metrica e musica

Saverio Mattei, in Elogio del Jommelli, underlined Jommelli's capacity for realizing in the interior of an aria a correct versification, that is, a giudiziosa disposizione of the poetical text. The verification of some of his affirmations occurs in the analysis of the aria Son regina e sono amante from Didone abbandonata by Metastasio, in the versions set to music by Jommelli, in the versions by Domenico Sarri and Leonardo Vinci, and in one by an anonymous composer, of which the parts reside at the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice (I-Vnm).
