The book presents and describes the historical recordings collected in 1952 by Carpitella and de Martino in Basilicata. The recordings are the result of the first ethnomusicological field research in Italy that is considered as the birth of Italian ethnomusicology. Each of the 110 music items - mainly published for the first time - is commented with reference to its musical form, together with the transcription of the sung texts (in dialect with translation into Italian) and in some cases with musical transcription on the staff. The transcription of the song texts, in particular, has required new field research in order to understand a dialect sometimes no longer spoken and in any case very much altered in singing. This work has revealed in many cases an incredibly interesting poetic imagery.

Abstract
This work has revealed in many cases an incredibly interesting poetic imagery.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
