A numerical method to solve both initial-value and boundary-value problem in geodesics calculation on arbitrary shaped surfaces has been developed. It is based on the approximation of a smooth surface with a triangular mesh while the geodesic path is obtained as a polygonal line. It can be used for creeping waves calculation on realistic structures. Preliminary tests showing its accuracy and efficiency are reported.

Abstract
A numerical method to solve both initial-value and boundary-value problem in geodesics calculation on arbitrary shaped surfaces has been developed. It is based on the approximation of a smooth surface with a triangular mesh while the geodesic path is obtained as a polygonal line. It can be used for creeping waves calculation on realistic structures. Preliminary tests showing its accuracy and efficiency are reported.File in questo prodotto:
