Abstract

PhSeCl adds to arylferrocenylethynes giving two regioisomers, ArC(Cl)=C(SePh)Fc and ArC(SePh)=C(Cl)Fc in different amounts, due to a favourable Se-Fe interaction. Se-77 NMR spectroscopy was useful for identifying the addition products. Kinetic experiments were also performed and a correlation was found using Hammett sigma values.
