The work reports an experimental study aimed at evaluating the influence of the rebars corrosion on the collapse mechanism of r.c. beams. Nine beams have been designed, constructed, artificially corroded and tested. 4PBT tests where performed with the loading span appropriately selected to display transfer from bending to shear failure. The formation and progression of cracks, the loss in load bearing capacity, the ductile/brittle collapse are the main topics discussed. The comparisons allow to evaluate the combined role of ductility and strength in reducing the structural safety in view of suggesting appropriate calibration of conventional design formulas for corroded structures.

Abstract
The work reports an experimental study aimed at evaluating the influence of the rebars corrosion on the collapse mechanism of r.c. beams. Nine beams have been designed, constructed, artificially corroded and tested. 4PBT tests where performed with the loading span appropriately selected to display transfer from bending to shear failure. The formation and progression of cracks, the loss in load bearing capacity, the ductile/brittle collapse are the main topics discussed. The comparisons allow to evaluate the combined role of ductility and strength in reducing the structural safety in view of suggesting appropriate calibration of conventional design formulas for corroded structures.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
