The technical and scientific developments of a top-level technology, that of radar, are discussed with reference to the whole historical period, from the first patent (Hülsmeyer, 1904) to the present days. The lead wire is made up of the significant events and the exceptional people that have made possible the development of this technology, starting from Hülsmeyer, proceeding, in the 1930’s, with scientists and technologists working independently and under strict secrecy in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the USA, Japan, USSR, Canada, the Netherlands, as well as Tiberio and Carrara in Italy, and arriving to the big business men of the period after the last global war. The book, in ten chapters, is structured on multiple levels of reading and organized in such a way as to be readable both from the "non-specialists" and the experts in the field of radar. Finally, it is rich of about three hundred images, most original and resulting from accurate searches within archives. It is: - a unique book dealing with the history of radar (1904-2014) worldwide, not limited a single period such as World War II; - written by a radar researcher, therefore including the main relevant technical/scientific aspects often neglected in historical works; - not sponsored by any Company or Body, neither formally nor informally, therefore, fully unbiased.
