L' Aletheia e i suoi sinonimi nella poesia alessandrina (Callimaco, Teocrito, Apollonio Rodio, Eronda)

Abstract

La ricerca mira a individuare il significato e il valore che assumono il sostantivo aletheia, gli aggettivi alethes, alethinos, e i loro sinonimi, nei quattro poeti maggiormente rapprentativi dell’età alessandrina: Callimaco, Teocrito, Apollonio Rodio, Eronda. La tesi si articola in cinque capitoli. Il primo capitolo, dedicato a Callimaco, è volto all’analisi di tutti i passi di questo autore in cui compaiano gli aggettivi alethes e alethinos. Nel secondo capitolo, dedicato a Teocrito, sono analogamente presi in esame i passi contenenti i lessemi alatheia, alathes, alathinos, e nel terzo, dedicato ad Eronda, quelli che presentano i lessemi aletheie, alethes, alethinos. Poiché all’interno dei quattro libri delle Argonautiche non si rintracciano attestazioni né del sostantivo aletheia, né degli aggettivi alethes e alethinos, nel quarto capitolo, dedicato ad Apollonio Rodio, sono presi in esame i sinonimi di alethes e alethinos impiegati da questo poeta: eteos, etetumos, nemertes, atrekes. Infine, nel quinto ed ultimo capitolo, viene analizzato il valore dei sinonimi impiegati rispettivamente da Callimaco: eteos, etetumos, etumos, atrekes, Teocrito: eteos, etetumos, etumos, atrekes, Eronda: etumos. La ricerca è preceduta da un’introduzione in vengono illustrati i fini e gli obiettivi cui tende il lavoro. I risultati venuti alla luce nel corso dell’ indagine trovano una sistemazione sintetica nelle conclusioni, ove vengono individuate le linee portanti del pensiero di ciascuno dei poeti presi in esame relativamente al concetto di “verità”, nonché le rispondenze o le sfumature analogiche e le difformità fra i quattro autori.

This study aims at identifying and clarifying the meaning carried by the noun aletheia, che adjectives alethes, alethinos, and their synonyms in the works of the four most representative authors of the Alexandrine age: Callimachus, Theocritus, Apollonius of Rhodes, and Herondas. The study breaks down into five chapters. The first chapter analyses all passages of Callimachus’ works featuring the adjectives alethes and alethinos. Similarly, all excerpts including the lexemes alatheia, alathes, and alathinos in Theocritus, and the lexemes aletheie, alethes, alethinos in Herondas, are examined in the second and third chapters, respectively. The fourth chapter is dedicated to Apollonius’ Argonautica. As no record of either the noun aletheia or the adjectives alethes and alethinos is available in the four books of the Argonautica, the study concentrates on the synonyms of alethes and alethinos used by Apollonius: eteos, etetumos, nemertes, atrekes. The fifth chapter focuses on the synonyms of alethes and alethinos which can be found in the works of Callimachus: eteos, etetumos, etumos, atrekes; Theocritus: eteos, etetumos, etumos, atrekes; and Herondas: etumos. An introductory essay provides a detailed account of the study’s general objective and specific aims. The results of the research are summarised in the conclusions, which offer an overview of the analogies and differences of the authors under consideration with respect to their specific understanding of the notion of ‘truth’.
